Beacon Institute approach:
- Involves integrated programming that connects diverse expertise across disciplines
- Fosters collaboration and partnerships
- Creates new opportunities in research, education and information exchange
Beacon Institute implements its mission through a multi-disciplinary focus on Science and Technology, Education and Policy, grounded in the work of scientists, engineers, educators and other professionals in Beacon, NY, and at satellite locations that span the Hudson River in cooperation with key university partners.
Beacon Institute takes an integrated view of how communities and ecosystems interact and depend on each other. We are especially driven to apply scientific research and technology towards new methods of obtaining the information necessary to improve understanding of the watershed and related policy initiatives. Our goal is to create the mechanisms through which humans can gain a more sophisticated understanding and management of rivers and estuaries for the benefit of public health, economic development, restoration of ecosystems and quality of life.
